The Rabbit Retreat

"Boarding for your rabbit or guinea pig while you are away."

Supporting the "Make mine chocolate" and "A hutch is not enough" campaign.

The Rabbit Retreat offers safe and friendly boarding for your pet rabbit or guinea pig whilst you are away on holiday, letting you enjoy your holiday without having to worry about your pet's welfare. We have many years experience in looking after rabbits and at the moment have four pet rabbits of our own. We are proud to be members of the Rabbit Welfare Association and can supply you with informative leaflets on rabbit health and care.

We are located in the idyllic countryside of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and are in a very peaceful and tranquil area where your pet will be free from toxic traffic fumes and town pollution.

Our accommodation consists of a number of single and double outside hutches of various sizes with daily access to outside runs. Every pet will be given play time in the spacious runs with toys and tunnels to prevent boredom. We are a small set-up and hence have more time to spend with each individual pet. Other small rodents (hamsters / gerbils etc.) can be accommodated if brought in their own secure homes. If you prefer your rabbit / guinea pig to stay in their own hutch just bring it along as we have plenty of space to accommodate more hutches.

At the Rabbit Retreat we feed rabbits a complete muesli type feed and guinea pigs are fed a guinea pig mixture. If preferred you may bring your rabbit's own food, (same daily rate applies.). A variety of treats will also be offered during your pets stay along with fresh fruit and vegetables daily. All rabbits can have access to hazel or willow sticks which they love to chew.

All hutches are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected between uses.

To most herbivorous pets hay is an essential part of their diet and a rabbit's diet should comprise of 80% hay, so good quality hay is a must. Our hay is produced locally and Neil personally takes charge of the entire process. The meadow that most of our hay comes from is rich in species of grasses, herbs and wildflowers whilst being free from harmful ragwort and has received no inorganic fertilisers or sprays for many years.

For bedding we use our hay and wood shavings with the option of barley straw or shredded paper.  Please see our Products List for prices of bedding materials and feeds that we can provide you with.

Your rabbit or guinea pig will not be allowed to mix with any other boarder apart from their own house mates.

All  rabbit boarders to have been vaccinated against myxomatosis and VHD and a valid veterinary certificate or letter produced on arrival. This is to protect all boarders from these diseases.

We are more than happy for you to have a look around before you book a place for your pet and if your pet has special requirements re diet or bedding (including shredded paper), please ask as we will try our best to oblige. We want you to be able to enjoy your time away without having to worry about your pet and we know your pet will enjoy their time with us.

Please call or email to book a place.
